ChargePoint Home now synced with Amazon Alexa, enabling EV drivers to manage home charging using only their voice
EV charging station operator and supplier ChargePoint has released a new mobile app that, in addition to finding charging spots while out and about, can also manage charging at home.
ChargePoint Home now enables drivers to ask Alexa to start and stop charging, find out whether their vehicle is plugged in and see how many miles have been added. Users can also ask Alexa about their account balance or how much they’ve spent on charging.
With additional connectivity via the Nest app to report on energy use, drivers can also link charging to multiple parts of a smart home.
“With the goal of helping to advance the mass adoption of electric mobility, ChargePoint is constantly exploring ways to make charging where EV drivers live, work and play easier and more convenient than ever,” said Colleen Jansen, Chief Marketing Officer at ChargePoint. “Amazon Alexa integration, station photos and the ability to get notified when a spot opens up all make EV charging easier by leveraging technology that fits seamlessly into a driver’s lifestyle. Ultimately, these innovative features make going electric even more compelling and support our mission of getting every driver behind the wheel of an EV.”
ChargePoint’s 42,000-strong network, its app also lists spots on several other networks, in theory expanding the potential EV resources to hand (if one doesn’t mind juggling several different payment accounts). Likewise, ChargePoint stations also now appear in the Teslarati app.
While it might be shrugged off as a gimmick, it could be a nifty time-saver for tech-savvy drivers. Moreover, with the ability to turn charging on and off with simple voice commands – rather than say, a trip to the garage – users should be able to easily ensure they’re charging at optimum times (and at lower electricity rates).
ElecTrans suspects it will not be long before other devices and management systems are also catered for as more households adopt smart energy technology, home battery systems and upcoming solutions such as wireless charging.
