Battery Technology Firm Sakti3 Acquired by Dyson (USA Today)

Vacuum cleaner manufacturer Dyson is to build a large battery factory to utilise Sakti3’s solid state lithium-ion technology. James Dyson, the founder of Dyson has confirmed his company’s purchase of the Michigan based battery technology firm.  Acquired for $90 million Dyson hopes to utilise Sakti3’s technology with their own products commercially within the next year or two.  Neither company would comment over whether they would be moving into the electric vehicle market and Dyson would not rule out licensing Sakti3’s technology to other companies.  In 2014, Sakti3 controversially claimed that its batteries were twice as efficient as those of Tesla Motors.  This purchase is part of Dyson’s $1.5 billion dollar investment in research and development for developing new commercial products.
